Woman's Hour

30/12/2008

Presented by Jane Garvey. Irish singer-songwriter Eleanor McEvoy joins Jane to discuss her career, her recent trip to Uganda and to perform her single ‘Old, New, Borrowed & Blue’. The lives of many women in pre-revolutionary Cuba were grim, and a number actively supported Castro’s revolutionary opposition. To discuss their role and to find out how women in Cuba have fared since, Jane is joined by journalist and author Kent Barker and Professor Elizabeth Dore. What are the practicalities of taking a family sabbatical? We hear from Jane Lichtenstein who's working for VSO in Zambia, and Jane speaks to actor Lynda Bellingham, currently on tour with a production of Calendar Girls, and agony aunt, Deirdre Sander. In the last of our series on wine, the wine writer Jancis Robinson provides some tips, and selects a couple of her favourite dry whites. The reporter is Simon Parkes. Including drama: Seventy Odd
