With Jane Garvey. The Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley worked her way up in the industry at a time when it was still dominated by men, but it is a world that has changed much since then. She joins Jane to talk about those changes and how she balances the demands of her four children while presenting her prime-time radio show. Despite academically outperforming boys, girls still tend to go on to earn less than their male counterparts. Some of that gap may be down to the fact that women often favour job satisfaction over income. However, given that the impact of poor careers advice can be profound, should we be telling girls more about how much they can expect to earn before they commit to a career path? Jane is joined by Dr Rachel Mulvey from the University of East London and Judith Leary Joyce, Chief Executive of Great Companies Consulting. Jane Garvey discusses the origins of district nursing with Dr Helen Sweet of the Wellcome Unit for the History of Medicine and Dr Carrie Howse, author of 'Rural District Nursing in Gloucestershire'. She also talks to the 98-year-old former district nurse, Irene Sankey MBE.
