Libbie Escolme-Schmidt started her career as an air hostess in the 1960s, when exotic stopovers, crazy parties and romantic trysts seemed to come as part of the job. The Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award was created in memory of Lady MacRobert, but in the prize's forty-year history only one woman has won it.
