A profile of the banded mongoose, a relative of the meerkat. It is a small sociable creature with a big personality that roams the East African grasslands. Alone, mongooses make sitting targets for eagles and lions, together they become a formidable force. Through living in large groups they have developed their own brand of care in the community. Several females give birth the same day, and each infant is suckled by any of the mothers, while youngsters team up with unrelated adults to learn the ways of the world.
