We Are Family - The Goughs

Like many families, the Goughs are not good at keeping in touch. The last time all five Gough brothers were together in the same place at the same time was decades ago. As children they were thick as thieves, but as adults long-standing feuds have kept them apart to the extent that some of their grown-up children have never even met. Now, after years of conflict and neglect, the Goughs are coming together for a weekend-long reunion to try and overcome their differences and rectify the mistakes of the past. Traditionally, the Gough males have careers in the armed forces - careers which have inevitably taken them away from home, away from their families and away from each other. Certainly, for Phillip Gough (a former army pilot) the demands of life in the military often took precedence over life with his family. But all that changed five years ago when Phillip's wife died unexpectedly and he found himself solely responsible for the care of his children. The experience triggered a major shift in attitude, and family quickly became the focus of Phillip's life. Now, he is on a mission to bring his siblings together and, in particular, to resolve the dispute that has prevented him from speaking to his favourite brother, John, for the last six years. But reconciliation will not be easy. Speaking openly and honestly about emotions does not come naturally to men who have been trained to fight and who still struggle to suppress the painful memories of bloody conflicts around the world. Can Phillip and his brothers put aside their differences, open their hearts and rediscover the love they shared as children? And can they help the younger generation of Goughs feel part of a family for the first time?
