Uncle Sam Goes Pop

Episode 2

Grammy winner Patti Austin continues the fascinating story of a short period in the 1940s when an unlikely alliance of recording artists, the army and the unions enabled the US Government to become the world's most successful record company. The series continues with a closer look why the American Federation of Musicians went on strike. There's music from Bing Crosby, who boosted national morale during World War II, recording for V-Discs, corresponding with servicemen, and selling a record number of war bonds. There are also rare V-Disc performances from Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Perry Como.
