Six women each live for a month with six different tribes from all over the world. Like many women today, juggling the pressures of Western life with careers and family, they all think something is missing. By spending time with tribes where women's roles are very different, they hope they can find some answers, and in doing so, change their own lives. The Afar are one of Ethiopia's most fiercely independent tribes, nomadic cattle and camel herders with a tough reputation, carrying guns to protect their herds from rival clans and wild animals. For the women, female circumcision is common and their strict Muslim culture forbids alcohol and anyone found drinking is immediately beaten and ostracised. Living with them for the next month is former alcoholic, 28-year-old Scottish air hostess Lana Inglis. Although she has not touched a drop for over a year, Lana is still deeply troubled by her past and, by living with the Afar for the next month, she wants to try to finally say goodbye to her alcoholism.
