Tosca

Film version of Puccini's opera starring Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna. Directed by Benoit Jacquot, the film alternates the narrative opera with the sound recording, juxtaposing location shooting in Rome in colour with studio recording in black and white. The story involves the manipulation of the jealous diva Tosca by the villainous Baron Scarpia in order to engineer the downfall of her lover, Cavaradossi.
