Norman Lebrecht talks to William Christie, conductor and founder of the early music ensemble Les Arts Florissants. An American now living in France, Christie talks about the draw of European music making. He reflects on the affect of the Vietnam War on his career and reveals the bullying methods of his teacher Ralph Kirkpatrick. He also considers the sometimes difficult working relationships with some of his colleagues and how nervousness, stress and anxiety have had a detrimental affect on his health.
