What is the meaning of Good Friday? Why do Christians honour the death of Jesus as a victory, whereas Jews and Muslims regard Jesus' crucifixion as a defeat and a humiliation? For many people Good Friday is all about hot cross buns; the Easter weekend and the start of Spring. But what's often forgotten is that it is in fact one of the most important dates in the Christian calendar. Historian Bettany Hughes embarks on a journey to uncover the meaning of Jesus' death on the cross, and finds out just why it still has significance today. She enlists a cast of leading figures from British Christianity, including Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury; John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York; Tom Wright, the Bishop of Durham; and Vincent Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster, to explain the meaning of Good Friday.
