Rites-of-passage western about a boy's journey to manhood on a gruelling cattle drive in the wake of the American Civil War. The 16-year-old persuades the boss of a cattle drive to let him join the arduous and violent trek from Texas to Colorado. However, his dreams of peaceful open spaces are shattered when a vicious gun battle leaves three drovers dead.
