Ten shy children who love to sing but are terrified of performing in public are put through their paces by choirmaster extraordinaire Gareth Malone. Having already worked his magic on a tone-deaf town, reluctant schoolboys and wayward teenagers, Gareth attempts to build the youngsters' fragile confidence and turn them into singing stars capable of performing in front of a massive crowd - 40,000 people at London's Proms in the Park. The challenges are getting tougher for the ten would-be singers as the Big Performance tour bus heads to the centre of the UK, pulling up at the Hippodrome theatre in Birmingham. It is Miriyah's turn in the solo spotlight and the pressure is on, as Gareth announces that the performance challenge will take place in front of 2,000 theatregoers, on the infamous Hippodrome stage. To help Miriyah prepare, Gareth takes her to a family barbecue where she is challenged to face her fears by singing in front of her entire family. The group have limited time to learn the glam rock classic Somebody to Love by Queen, so Gareth arranges some expert coaching from West End star Sarah French, who plays Scaramouche in the musical We Will Rock You. The group are styled like true glam rock stars for a photo shoot in a top teenage magazine, and Gareth really tests their mettle by challenging them to parade their Lady Gaga get-ups through the busy streets of Birmingham. But can they pull off a glam rock-worthy performance on their first professional stage in front of a 2,000-strong audience?
