David and Ruth get ready to go to the pancake event at The Bull. Eddie, on his way to the cows, tells David that he'd be willing to take on some shifts in the lambing shed, but David says he'll have to give Bert first refusal. He also comments that he's going to be letting Bert carry on refitting the tractor on his own from now on - something for which Ruth is obviously touched and grateful. The pancake event is a success, with David, Alan, Shula, Fallon and Ruth all taking part in the races. Sid and Shula are delighted, and plug the next event: a table top sale in March. As Alan talks about the current fundraising appeal for the Church Urban Fund, talk turns to Lent. Eddie finds great hilarity in Fallon's intent to give up chocolate, and comments that she stands as much chance as Lilian would of giving up alcohol. Lilian takes offence, and a challenge is set: both Eddie and Lilian will give up drinking for Lent, with friends sponsoring them for the church fund. If either of them fails to meets the challenge, they have to donate 50 pounds to the fund themselves.
