Nigel and Mike go to look at a fallen beech tree in the park which came down in the winter storms. Nigel is shocked when Mike suggests replanting with Holm Oak - a species which tolerates drought. After all, no-one really knows what the weather is going to do in the long term and the beeches are already dying back down south. Nigel can't bear thinking of the park without the wonderful autumn displays; his heritage to his children. He talks to Elizabeth - what if that's it, what if they have had the best of everything and spoiled it for Freddie and Lily? Lizzie is puzzled, and tries to understand. Shula sets up a cricket fundraising event for Shrove Tuesday. Mike and Sid agree that it would be nice to do something for Jack in recognition of all he has done for village cricket over the years. Maybe they could name the pavilion after him, and give him life membership of the club? It would be good to put a smile on his face while they still have him. Episode written by Tim Stimpson.
