Alan visits Jim who's less than welcoming, challenging Alan about his Christian beliefs. Despite some heated debate Alan enjoys the challenge and to Shula's surprise Jim and Alan agree to meet up again. Later Alan tells Shula that she should stand up to Jim - he obviously relishes an argument. But she shouldn't worry about Daniel - it's good to have ideas challenged and Alan will give Daniel some ammunition. Will turns up at Nic's unexpectedly and is concerned when she seems reluctant to let him in. He's shocked when there's hardly any furniture left in the house and Nic confesses that she's got into debt and some men came round that morning to take her stuff away. When Will finds it hard to understand why she didn't tell him, Nic says she didn't want Will to think, like Clarrie did, that Nic was after free hand-outs. But Will doesn't care what Clarrie thinks - Nic and the kids are all that matter to him. When Nic argues that she doesn't want to live off his charity Will placates her, saying it's just the luck of the draw that he has a bit more money than her. He loves her - so it would solve everything if she came to live with him. Episode written by Mary Cutler.
