Susan's keen for Christopher to look the part on his skiing holiday and is sending him shopping. Neil thinks it's all a waste of time; it's just a teenage romance that probably won't last. Susan announces she's going into town as well to get a couple of things for herself. At the shops she can't resist having her say, to Christopher's intense embarrassment. They arrive home laden with bags, and Neil is horrified at the cost. He forbids her to spend another penny on the holiday. Bert and Mike are with David in the workshop, tinkering with the tractor he bought at the farm sale. He hadn't intended to buy anything but when he saw the Massey Ferguson he just had to have it. Mike's thinking of making a new maypole for the fete if he can get the timber and asks David to mention it at the next parish meeting. They agree it's good to have a project to get stuck into. David finds it gives him space to think. That evening Bert leaves David resolving to look on the net for a new link arm, even if it takes him all night. Episode written by Adrian Flynn.
