Leland's Travels

David Wallace explores the life and work of humanist scholar John Leland, who was commissioned by Henry VIII to search through the ancient libraries of all the religious houses of his kingdom and catalogue their literary treasures - before the monasteries were destroyed and their manuscripts dispersed. Excerpts from Leland's writings and travel notes are read by Jeremy Northam.
