Eileen's miffed playing gooseberry to Gina and Murray in her own flat. When she meets Gordon, she subtly encourages him to think about moving to a bigger place - this would free up Ruth's flat for Gina and Murray to move into. Gordon's keen, but Ruth's not happy when she hears that he's been talking about future plans without her. Iona has decided that Gordon's not right for Ruth. She makes a call to Ruth's ex, Andy Carroll, thinking he'll put the spring back into Ruth's step. Iona's plan is soon thwarted when a woman answers the phone and Iona hangs up abruptly. Eileen thinks her plan of shoving Ruth and Gordon into cohabitation is coming along nicely until Sheila Carroll turns up, demanding to speak to Ruth. Sheila is full of talk, accusing Ruth of pestering her son. She states that Andy is no longer interested in Ruth and asks that she leave him alone. Ruth later denies all knowledge but Gordon isn't convinced. When Eileen meets up with Sheila she discovers that it was Iona that made the call from the deli, not Ruth. Sheila is unconvinced and heads back to Montego Street to find Ruth and have it out. Back at the flat Ruth has just managed to placate Gordon when Sheila crashes in. Mrs Carroll reveals to Gordon that Ruth was planning on going to Dubai with Andy last year but broke Andy's heart at the last minute. Eileen and Gina leave Ruth and Gordon alone to talk, and once again Ruth works hard to convince Gordon she loves him. Later Eileen is relieved to see Gordon and Ruth back on track, but her relief is short-lived when Andy Carroll walks in. The sight of him takes Ruth's breath away but she's gutted when Andy announces he's getting married, and he introduces his fiancee Gabriella. Ruth does her best to cover the pain of Andy's news with announcing her own news - she and Gordon are moving in together. But we see Ruth might not be as happy as she's letting on... Meanwhile, DI Rook tells Malcolm that Lenny's advocate is in place - and he's a Rottweiler of a man, who prides himself on results. Malcolm reiterates that he saw Lenny push Ewan over the scaffolding and forced him to fall to his death, but he's buckling under the pressure. Liz is uncomfortable with DI Rook's approach but she has to prepare Malcolm for cross-examination on the stand. Seeing Malcolm's nervous reaction to this, Liz's suspicions are roused. Liz later sees Lydia trying to talk to so she decides to visit Lydia to find out why she is so concerned about Malcolm's statement. The only reason to worry about what Malcolm will say in court is if his testimony is false, but if Malcolm is lying then Lydia is too. Lydia convinces Liz that her theory is just a product of an over-active imagination. But by mentioning justice for Archie in her efforts to convince Liz, Lydia alerts Liz to a motive for Malcolm to lie - to help her obtain justice for Archie's murder. Liz gently confronts Malcolm - did he back up Lydia's story to get justice for Archie's murder? Malcolm finally admits he lied to the police. Later that night DI Rook arrives to take a new statement from Malcolm as he tells her what really happened the night Ewan fell to his death...
