Louise Fryer presents highlights from the 2009 EBU Schwetzingen Festival in Germany. Violinist Leila Josefowicz plays a varied programme, including a work from a sonata written by committee - Brahms collaborated with Schumann and Dietrich on a sonata, although this is the movement that is the most frequently played. Shostakovich's masterly Violin Sonata is followed by a piece by Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tuur and a relatively little-known work by Schubert. Leila Josefowicz (violin) John Novacek (piano) Brahms: Scherzo (F-A-E Sonata in C minor for violin and piano, WoO 2) Shostakovich: Violin Sonata, Op 134 Erkki-Sven Tuur: Conversio, for violin and piano Schubert: Rondo in B minor for violin and piano, D895.
