Another chance to hear a Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert, given at Cadogan Hall, London. The programme is dedicated to the music of the great Italian Renaissance master Claudio Monteverdi. All that survives of his second opera Arianna - whose 400th anniversary falls this year - is Arianna's Lament, which became so famous that 40 years later, it was said to be on the shelves of every serious musician. Book-ending this are reflections of love and war from Monteverdi's Eighth Book of Madrigals.
