Robert Elms celebrates the glories of the 1908 Franco-British Exhibition, a huge fair installed in the area of London now known as White City. Using messages from picture postcards sent from the exhibition, Robert learns about some of the attractions, including the Flip Flap that lifted passengers two hundred feet into the air, the snake-charmers and the elephants that tumbled down wooden slides.
