Richard Strauss' tone poem tells the story of 13th century prankster Till Eulenspiegel, who is eventually hanged by the authorities for blasphemy, while Prokofiev recounts Shakespeare's tale of star-crossed lovers caught in the cross-fire of family feuding. Between these, Latvian violinist Baiba Skride brings youthful vigour to Stravinsky's angular, yet romantic, neo-classical Violin Concerto.
