Presented by Catherine Bott The celebrated Austrian pianist Till Fellner continues his survey of the complete sonatas of Beethoven, including some of his most original piano works as well as two of his best-loved sonatas. The famous 'Moonlight' sonata, originally known as 'Quasi una fantasia' like it's companion work, was given it's nickname by the poet Rellstab, who compared the music to the reflection of moonlight on Lake Lucerne. The 'Waldstein' sonata, named after its dedicatee, is both sublime and technically challenging, a real tour de force from a man at the height of his creative powers.
