Presented by Petroc Trelawny Claudio Abbado's celebrated recording of The Magic Flute K. 620, with René Pape as Sarastro, Christoph Strehl as Tamino, Dorothea Röschmann as Pamina and Hanno Müller-Brachmann as Papageno. The queen of the night is interpreted by Erika Mikósa. When Tamino, a young prince, finds himself lost and pursued by a snake, he invokes the mercy of the gods, and faints. Three veiled maidens appear, and quickly notice how sweet and handsome the young man is. They compete amongst themselves for the pleasure of looking after him - and so begins Mozart's final opera, a mix of both philosophical parable and music-hall comedy. Sarastro .....
