Live from St Paul's Knightsbridge in London, Martin Handley presents a concert culminating with Brahms's A German Requiem. Composed after the death of his mother, this is one of Brahms's greatest works and, with its themes of consolation and comfort, a piece often described as a Requiem for the living, rather than the dead. Here it's performed in Brahms's arrangement for piano duet, which brings an intimacy to this magisterial piece. The programme also includes music by Brahms's musical mentor Schumann, and Mozart's much-loved fantasia - originally conceived as a piece for musical clock. Concert Part Two Brahms: A German Requiem (piano duet version) BBC Singers conducted by David Hill Stephen Betteridge and Richard Pearce (piano duet).
