Performance on 3 - Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra - Entente Cordiale

Presented by Catherine Bott. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Hill perform a programme entitled 'Entente Cordiale', featuring music from England and France. Recorded at the orchestra's home in the Lighthouse, Poole, the concert starts with Poulenc's youthful and impish ballet Les biches. Then two pieces reflect the English love of the sea - Elgar's Sea Pictures, dealing with the fragility of man when confronted by its elemental forces, and Frank Bridge's symphonic suite The Sea, a more impressionist portrayal, depicting both the benign tranquillity and terrifying ferocious power of the oceans. The concert ends with Saint-Saens' ever-popular Organ Symphony.
