Presented by Petroc Trelawny. Two works from the heart of the Viennese tradition, crowned by the ageless classicism and passionately elegiac Fourth Symphony of Brahms. Mahler's youthful songs bring alive the gentle folk poetry of the fields and woods, the wavering nightlight and sharp fleeting raptures, a young man's music of love and loss sung by young British baritone Roderick Williams. Opening the concert, however, is Sibelius' fairy tale tone poem, En Saga. Recorded at St David's Hall Cardiff. Roderick Williams (baritone) BBC National Orchestra of Wales Thomas Sondergard (conductor) Sibelius: En Saga Mahler: Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen Brahms: Symphony No 4 in E minor, Op 98 Followed by a focus on Sing Hallelujah, a UK-wide celebration of choral singing inspired by Handel's famous chorus.
