Presented by Petroc Trelawny. Under principal conductor Thierry Fischer, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales perform favourites by Berlioz and Dvorak as well as a rarity by Debussy. Written during his student days in 1889-90, Debussy's Fantaisie for piano and orchestra was one of the works the self-critical young composer disowned. He withdrew the piece just as it was being put into rehearsal (with Vincent d'Indy conducting), and the first performance did not take place until after his death in 1918. It is a lyrical work, suited to the talents of soloist Philippe Cassard, a specialist in Debussy's music.
