The Royal bank of Scotland, now majority-owned by the taxpayer, has been under increased presure to make its art collection more accessible to the public. Now, in its first interview about the collection, the bank agree to share their work more widely, and also admit that some of the art will go on sale. Razia Iqbal examines the tradition of banks as patrons of art - a role which dates back to 14th-century Italy - and asks what responsibility comes with owning great art.
