Anne McElvoy talks to Harold Evans, one of the most famous newspapermen in Britain. He began his career as a reporter for a weekly newspaper in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, at the age of 16. He went on to edit the Sunday Times and establish a reputation as a passionate and hugely successful investigative reporter and editor. During his tenureship there, the paper revealed Kim Philby as a spy and exposed the thalidomide scandal Evans discusses his career in print journalism, his editorship of the Sunday Times and his thoughts on the profession today. He also talks about whether the kind of investigative reporting he did is still feasible today, as well as the apparently parlous state of print journalism.
