NIGHT WAVES – Thursday 18th Sept 2008 Do all husbands secretly want their wives to be unfaithful to them? Award winning writer Howard Jacobson joins Philip Dodd to discuss his new novel, The Act of Love, which explores the boundaries of betrayal and desire. Sarah Compton reviews In-i, the new dance collaboration between leading British dancer and choreographer Akram Khan, actress Juliette Binoche and Tuner prize winning sculptor Anish Kapoor. From The Biblical Leviathan to Herman Melville’s Moby Dick, a new book and Arena documentary explore the mythical status of The Whale, hunted, persecuted, fictionalised, and imagined. Philip Hoare, author of Leviathan, joins Philip Dodd to explain why the whale is among the most basic of our myths, and argues that it is even tied to the foundations of the American dream. And a chance to hear a Free Thought from the chair of the Welsh Arts Council, Dai Smith, in the run-up to Radio 3’s Free Thinking Festival next month.
