Gordon Brown has said he is stepping down as Labour Party leader. Mr Brown, Prime Minister since 2007, announced his intention to quit in a statement in Downing St in which he also said his party was to start formal talks with the Lib Dems. The third day of negotiations on forming a government looks likely to close without a deal. The eurozone and the International Monetary Fund have found 750 billion euros to sort out the Greek debt crisis and the markets have responded well.
