The Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme exists to provide support and opportunities to some of the brightest talents in the world of classical music, and in the ten years of its existence has numbered artists such as the Belcea String Quartet, Paul Lewis, Janine Jansen, Natalie Clein and Alice Coote among its distinguished members. In the first of ten early-evening programmes over the Christmas period, we hear studio performances by two of the scheme's newest members, both from Germany: violinist Veronika Eberle plays Schubert's A major Duo, and cellist Nicolas Altstaedt plays one of Bach's Gamba Sonatas. We also hear Swiss trumpeter Giuliano Sommerhalder in Enescu's Legende and Dutch baritone Henk Neven in songs by Carl Loewe.
