Franz Liszt was the most celebrated performer of his day, a phenomenal virtuoso pianist. He was a media-darling who manipulated the press to enhance his reputation, and was adored by his public, the ladies in particular. Pianist David Owen Norris follows Liszt on his record-breaking concert tours, from Lisbon to Constantinople, Gibraltar to St Petersburg, where he gave a staggering 1,000 concerts over nine years. With contributions from historian Donald Sassoon, Rossana Dalmonte from the Liszt Institute in Bologna, and writer Gillen Wood. Plus readings of Liszt's letters by Jamie Glover and reviews of the day by John Sessions.
