The Scottish Consumer Council is urging the Scottish Government to extend its healthy eating initiative beyond the school gates. It says local shopkeepers should help out by ditching their fatty and sugary options. Is this a realistic plan, or would it be easier to ban kids from leaving school at lunchtime and force them to eat healthy meals? Plus: Is an attack on a someone with a disability a 'hate crime'? At the end of last week a man who suffers from cerebral palsy was assaulted in Edinburgh by two teenage girls. How common is it for those with disabilities to face abuse? Earlier this year the Justice Secretary said he wanted to extend statutory aggravations to cover crimes motivated by malice or ill will towards victims. That would mean attacks based on a disability would be treated the same as racial or religious crimes. However, a BBC investigation has found evidence of only two instances where the law on disabled hate crime has been successfully applied in England and Wales -- and these were in relatively minor cases.
