Is it a fireman's right to refuse to hand out safety leaflets at a gay pride march? John Mitchell, one of nine Glasgow firefighters disciplined for refusing to hand out leaflets at a gay pride march, has received damages and an apology from his employers. Some of them claimed it would be embarrassing to attend the 2006 Pride Scotia rally in uniform, while others argued it would contradict their moral beliefs. But Mr Mitchell took his case to an employment tribunal and has reached an out-of-court settlement. Has common sense won the day? Or is it nothing more than bigotry on the part of public servants who refuse to engage with the gay community? Graham Stewart takes your calls, texts and emails.
