Is it our civic duty to perform jury service, or a waste of our precious time? The number of people who're excused from jury service should be cut, according to a leading law academic, Peter Duff from the University of Aberdeen. The BBC has obtained figures under Freedom of Information from two courts in Scotland - Glasgow and Perth - which show that 20 to 46 per cent of people are being excused from jury duty on a regular basis.
