Metroland

Logo for Metroland

Metro-Land was the name invented in the early 20th century by the publicity department of the Metropolitan Railway. In this classic 1973 documentary, sometimes in verse, Poet Laureate John Betjeman takes a nostalgic view of the suburban lands that branch off the Metropolitan Line through north-west London, Middlesex ('Gaily into Rusilip Gardens/Runs the red electric train'), Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
