Liverpool, who were at West Ham, were the only one of the 'Big Four' clubs in action, with the relegation battle set to take centre stage. Portsmouth visited Blackburn, having won a 3-2 thriller against Rovers at Fratton Park earlier this season to give Tony Adams his first win as Pompey manager - Adams didn't last long but those three points now look incredibly precious as the relegation fight reaches its crucial stages. Hull and Stoke, both of whom were promoted from the Championship last season, did battle at the KC Stadium while Sunderland were looking to help their cause with a win at Bolton and West Brom faced a visit from Steve Bruce's Wigan. Meanwhile, further up the table were a couple of matches that would have a bearing on who will qualify for next season's Europa League, with Everton entertaining Tottenham and Aston Villa travelling to Fulham.
