Mark Lamarr opens his curiosity box of musical delights and is joined in session by The Creole Choir of Cuba, a spectacular vocal harmony and percussion ensemble performing the traditional music of Haiti, Dominica and Cuba. This week's featured artist is toaster and singer Dave Barker. Most famously known for his collaboration with Ansil Collins as the toaster on the track 'Double Barrel', Dave Barker is also a fine singer as the tracks 'Don't Turn Your Back On Me (Blessed Are The Meek)', 'Prisoner of Love', 'Your Love's a Game' and 'I Was Wrong' proves. The featured album this week is 'Dial 3 For Northern Soul'. A Northern Soul compilation made up of artists from three different record labels Dial, Hickory and challenge. Dial and Hickory are both based in Nashville, but it is LA based label Challenge that has the more intriguing story. Started by Gene Autry, the singing cowboy star, it ended up being owned by Michael Jackson. Mark features tracks by Joe Tex, Ron Holden, Jerry Fuller, Bobby Marchan, Johnny Wyatt and Charles Lamont and the Extremes. Plus on the show there's the usual blend of country, reggae, gospel and funk that rarely get heard elsewhere on the radio.
