Live in session tonight from London is Wild Billy Childish. And Slow Club are live in Manchester. We've also got archive sessions from Billy Bragg, The Chameleons and Virginia Doesn't. Billy Childish (born Steven John Hamper, 1 December 1959) is an English artist, author, poet, photographer, film maker, singer and guitarist. He is known for his explicit and prolific work. He is a consistent advocate for amateurism and free emotional expression and was a co-founder of the Stuckism art group in 1999, which he left in 2001. Since then a new evaluation of Childish's standing in the art world has been underway, culminating with the publication of a critical study of Childish's working practice by the artist and writer Neal Brown, with an introduction by Peter Doig, which describes Childish as "one of the most outstanding, and often misunderstood, figures on the British art scene." Slow Club are a two-piece folk-pop band from Sheffield, England. The band formed in 2006, after the break-up of Sheffield band The Lonely Hearts. The band is made up of Charles (vocals & guitar) and Rebecca (vocals, guitar & percussion) and they've supported other Sheffield contemporaries such as Tiny Dancers and Tilly and the Wall. Slow Club are notable for their use of unusual objects as percussion instruments such as glass bottles and even a chair.
