Emma and Rob moved from Northern Ireland into a tiny, one-and-a-half bedroom love nest in north London three years ago, buying at the height of the housing market and saddling themselves with huge mortgage payments. With no money left to do their place up they are given 10,000 pounds to transform it. But there's one huge catch - Rob will have to move out and have nothing to do with the transformation, leaving DIY virgin Emma just three weeks to design, decorate and do up their home. While Emma gets to work knocking down internal walls, destroying Rob's beloved bookshelves and doing the flat up in three kinds of sparkly wallpaper, Rob has a secret mission of his own - a life-sized replica of the flat to do up exactly as he wants. Emma will get to see Rob's vision for their flat just two days before he moves back into their home. When she comes face to face with his gentleman's club themed decor will she tone down her own girlie vision or will she stick to her guns? Can she win him round to the shiny red kitchen, the chandeliers, the removal of the TV and the lack of storage space for his books?
