Start the day with some great tunes and a good old natter with Lynn Parsons This week Lynn will be opening up the Book Club to Stella Gibbons' Cold Comfort Farm. Set in the 1930's Cold Comfort Farm is a comic novel based on British rural life. Having grown up with an extremely privileged lifestyle the book's heroine, socialite Flora, suddenly finds herself, at nineteen, orphaned and not as wealthy as she thought. Although highly educated, Flora is unskilled at anything practical and is unable to fend for herself, so she decides to go and live with her relatives the Starkaddars on Cold Comfort Farm. The Starkaddars, are a motley bunch with a multitude of issues and are ruled by the unseen Aunt Ada Doom on a farm that is falling apart. Flora takes it upon herself to sort the family out and drag them into the twentieth century.
