Frank Renton presents the Fairey band with conductor Philip Chalk. The band recall a different era with The Beaufighters by Maurice Johnstone which was written for the Fairey Aviation Band as they were known seventy years ago and named after one of the most famous aircraft involved in the second world war, The Bristol Beaufighter. Maurice Johnstone was Head of Music for the BBC in Manchester at the time, and created a considerable amount of music for the brass band, much of it still played. The band also play music by Tomlinson, Leroy Anderson, Mussorsgky and the evergreen Grandfather's Clock featuring the bands principal Euphonium Gary Curtin in a varied programme especially recorded for the show.
