Jez Nelson presents a gig from young British trio The Golden Age of Steam recorded at the 2009 Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Saxophonist James Allsopp's compositions provide space for improvising that's inspired by wailing lyricism, spacey grooves, disorder and ambiguity. Completing the trio are Kit Downes on Hammond organ and Tim Giles on drums. James Allsopp and Tim Giles gained national recognition through their hard grooves fused with electronics and improvisation in the group Fraud. Known for their energetic live shows, their self-titled album received critical praise in 2007. Kit Downes is a graduate from Royal Academy of Music and has released a piano duo album with his teacher at the Academy - British pianist and composer Tom Cawley.
