Jazz Line-Up - Tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin

Julian Joseph presents a round-up of new CDs as well as a discussion with jazz journalist, musician and broadcaster Dave Gelly about the life and music of tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin, who died in July 2008. Griffin began his career in 1945 when he joined jazz star Lionel Hampton's orchestra after studying music at the DuSable High School in his native Chicago, Illinois. He went on to make a name for himself in the music industry with collaborations including drummer Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Nat Adderley There is also an interview with Abdullah Ibrahim, promoting his new CD, Senzo, and with with Tommy Smith, who has been nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award.
