Julian Joseph presents a special concert given yesterday at the 2008 Coventry Jazz Festival by the BBC Big Band in celebration of its 10th birthday. The line-up features two BBC Jazz Award winners: saxophonist Alan Barnes and pianist Liane Carroll, as well as conductor Barry Forgie. The programme includes the premiere of Julian's new work Mountain of Hope, while Liane Carroll, who gave an acclaimed performance at the 2007 Glastonbury festival, performs items from her current album Slowdown, specially arranged for big band. Alan Barnes is considered to be one of the UKs foremost multi-reed jazz players, and is a prolific artist with dozens of albums to his credit. He is much in demand as a raconteur as well as a musician and one of his most recent projects was a collaboration with playwright Alan Plater to write and narrate The Sherlock Holmes Suite.
