Veteran jazz drummer Roy Haynes guides Alyn Shipton through the essential recordings from his extensive catalogue. Haynes's involvement in jazz drumming goes back very far, having started out with Luis Russell's big band and Louis Armstrong, before becoming a key figure of the bebop revolution with Charlie Parker and Bud Powell. He has played for every major singer, principally Sarah Vaughan, and has also led a series of his own bands.
