For half a century, pianist Horace Silver was one of the key figures in soul jazz and hard bop. In a conversation with Alyn Shipton, recorded shortly before he retired, Silver selects his key recordings. The music includes his early work with Stan Getz and Miles Davis, the original Jazz Messengers, and a host of the bands Silver has led himself, from trios to quintets, creating such classic tracks as The Preacher and Senor Blues.
