Irish singer Christine Tobin helps Alyn Shipton select the essential items from jazz vocalist Abbey Lincoln's large discography. Lincoln has one of the most distinctive voices in jazz and since her recording debut in the 1950s, she has turned away from much of the standard repertoire in favour of more challenging material that explores the racial and political climate in America.
